    Abstract
My intensive literature search on the application of Eisenhardt’s (1989) eight steps of building theory from case study research revealed that no-one had tried out the process in Africa. Further evidence suggested that Eisenhardt has been popularising her own process. The challenge in my study was to test-through-use the process in the Zimbabwean context. From my experience documented below, I assert that Eisenhardt’s process is usable in the further study of transformation in Zimbabwe. I strongly suggest and encourage researchers interested in qualitative research methodologies, particularly ‘grounded theory’, to use it in Zimbabwe, other African contexts and, generally, in emerging economies outside Africa
