dc.description.abstractIntestinal Pathogenetic E.coli is a class of E.coli strains capable of causing an infection and subsequently disease in the intestines. This class consists of six major strains with some having their own variants, namely: Shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC) that are either heat liable or heat stable, enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC), diffusely adherent E. coli (DAEC) and enteroinvasive (EIEC) E. coli. Antibiotic therapy is the main mode of treatment for an IPEC related infections. The rise in antibiotic resistant in E.coli over the years has raised alarm and the need to find solutions. AIM of the study is to identify the spread of antibiotic resistant IPEC strains from samples collected from chickens in Chanakira village Seke. Methodology involves the isolation of E.coli using Eosin Methylene Blue selective media, followed by antibiotic testing using , Ampicillin 10µg, Kanamycin 10 μg, Gentamycin 30μg, Tetracycline 30µg, Cefoxitin 30µg. Genotyping will be done using a 10 primer multiplex PCR. RESULTS 95% of the E.coli isolates were susceptible to CEF and GEN. 10%, 15% and 25% of the isolates were resistant to KAN, AMP and TET respectively. The isolates also displayed intermediate susceptibility to AMP, KAN and CEF and from the 3 antibiotics AMP had the lowest intermediate susceptibility at 5%. Antibiotic therapy using TET and Gen was the most effective at 95%. 9 samples tested positive for IPEC, with sta, eaeA, afaE3, stx1 and stx2 being the common amplicons. This shows that there is a wide spread of antibiotic IPEC from the collected samples with 4 out of 6 strains being identified.en_ZW
