| dc.description.abstract | Whilst gender parity policies have been adopted and Education has become a basic human right, women remain under represented in the logistics industry. This research sought to reveal any other factors that result in such a phenomenon. It sought to identify and evaluate institutional factors that limit women participation in positions of modern logistics leadership. It also assessed gender roles and cultural factors in career development. In addition, the impact of gender parity policies was also determined. The study followed a qualitative approach as the researched solicited in-depth responses from participants. An interview guide and questionnaire were used to ensure reliability and validity of the study The study revealed that gender perception and lack of confidence in women themselves have a negative impact on women’s career progress in logistics. The study revealed that whilst modern logistics is characterised by use of advanced technology, this has widened horizons for women. Women can reconcile their domestic duties with those of their profession. However, education is a moderating variable as Information Technology requires knowledge and practice. The study also revealed that gender perceptions is a major deterrent of women career advancement in logistics. Lack of confidence in women themselves also has an adverse effect on their participation in positions of modern logistics leadership. The study concluded that Information Technology has opened numerous opportunities for women in the logistics industry. Further study regarding the ratio of women in support departments of logistics versus men and reasons thereof was recommended. Studies on marital status and career success for women in logistics were also suggested | en_ZW |
