<title>An investigation of the impact of big data analytics of firm performance on mobile network operators in Zimbabwe</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10646/4782</link>
<description>An investigation of the impact of big data analytics of firm performance on mobile network operators in Zimbabwe
Makomo, Marvin
The research aimed to investigate the impact of big data analytics on firm performance of&#13;
mobile operators in Zimbabwe. The case of NetOne Cellular (Pvt) Ltd’, Telecel Zimbabwe&#13;
and Econet Wireless. The research was both exploratory and descriptive in nature. The data&#13;
was collected through the use of a questionnaire and face to face interviews. The target&#13;
population was965 individuals comprising of all NetOne, Econet and Telecel employees both&#13;
managerial and non-managerial employees. The sample drawn was of 275 individuals who&#13;
were made up of executives, senior managers, middle managers, supervisors and operational&#13;
level employees. The data was collated and presented with the help of tables and graphs.&#13;
From the findings of the research it was concluded that there is a strong positive causal&#13;
relationship between big data analytics management and corporate performance. The study&#13;
showed that big data analytics infrastructure, analytics skills or knowledge and a unique mix&#13;
of big data analytics capabilities is a critical determinant of corporate performance. It was&#13;
recommended that mobile operators should develop an overall Big Data capability in order&#13;
for them to gain a competitive advantage. To develop such an overall capability in Big Data,&#13;
mobile operators should enhance their technological resources, use them to facilitate internal&#13;
operations, encourage their employees to develop Big Data analytical skills, and align their&#13;
Big Data competences with their strategic goals. The organization creates a culture that&#13;
supports learning and work towards the minimization of organizational politics.

<description>Pursuing Zimbabwe vision 2030 and education 5.0 through disruptive innovation by introducing an application that provides solutions to construction industry problems for sustainable infrastructure development
Johane, Terence
The research investigates the impact of pursuing Zimbabwe’s vision 2030 and education 5.0&#13;
through disruptive innovation by introducing a resource sharing application that provides&#13;
solutions to construction industry and real estate problems. A resources sharing application is an&#13;
end to end web based system that includes a Mobile Application and Corresponding website service&#13;
that facilitates trade and data management in the construction and real estate industry through online&#13;
equipment and machinery hiring and logistics, online civil and building contracting, material&#13;
purchases, personnel hiring, tender process, consultancy, insurance and real estate management. A&#13;
qualitative approach was adopted for this research and 10 construction professionals were&#13;
interviewed. The main findings are related to the benefits of introducing disruptive innovation in&#13;
pursuit of vision 2030 and Education 5.0. This innovation is meant to benefit the national economic&#13;
discourse and nurture talent that solve industrial challenges. The Innovation and Industrialization&#13;
elements of Education 5.0 are the pillars upon which the researcher aims to bring fresh thinking&#13;
to and solutions to the construction industry. The resource sharing platform brings the solution of&#13;
eliminating information asymmetry in the construction sector and other related industries as there&#13;
is no centralized or a consolidated portal for the industry and the nation at large which provides&#13;
instant information on technological capital, human resource capital, national infrastructure&#13;
projects, transactional analytics and price and quality guides. The study encourages easy of doing&#13;
business, entrepreneurship and encourages industrialization by proving a systematic way to the&#13;
planning and control process. The application that is based on the disruptive innovation in this way&#13;
facilitates the flow of information, thus improving easy of doing business

<title>An investigation into the success factors of employee engagement in Zimbabwe’s mining sector</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10646/4756</link>
<description>An investigation into the success factors of employee engagement in Zimbabwe’s mining sector
Mushati, Rumbidzai
The aim of the study was to investigate the success factors of employee engagement in&#13;
Zimbabwe’s Mining Sector. The study was motivated by the high turnover of skilled and&#13;
technical staff at the rate of 60%. Management attention was required due to costs associated&#13;
with the rehiring, training, placement and motivation of the employees. The research focused&#13;
on establishing the correlation between employee participation and involvement and&#13;
employee engagement, determining the extent to which leadership is associated with employee&#13;
engagement, identifying the degree to which incentives and rewards are correlated with&#13;
employee engagement, to ascertaining the association between job designing and employee&#13;
engagement, examining how career development is correlated with employee engagement. A&#13;
quantitative survey was carried with 200 staff and managers of four mining companies in&#13;
Zimbabwe. A simple random technique was used to select 200 staff and managers. Primary&#13;
data was collected using a structured questionnaire. A total of 150 questionnaires were returned&#13;
for analysis achieving a response rate of 75%. A questionnaire was reliable at 0.946 Cronbach&#13;
alpha value. With the aid of SPSS, mean scores and correlations analysis were used to&#13;
determine the relationship between the independent and the dependent variables. The research&#13;
found that there is positive and significant relationship between the independent variables&#13;
(employee participation and involvement, leadership, compensation and rewards, job&#13;
designing, career development and employee engagement. Employees in the four mines in the&#13;
mining industry of Zimbabwe were comfortable to share their ideas and employee ideas are&#13;
incorporated. Leadership is a success factor affecting engagement levels, employees in the&#13;
mining sector are more engaged when they are rewarded and recognized. Employees prefer&#13;
jobs that are interesting and challenging, attractive and meaningful. The mining industry&#13;
provides training and career development for its employees. In order to improve employee&#13;
engagement in the mining sector government must regulate mining companies to reinforce&#13;
safety issues for employees to work without fear of any harm. The industry may introduce&#13;
performance related pay based when meeting targets, surpassing targets or exceptional&#13;
performance. The study was purely quantitative, other studies can employ qualitative research&#13;
on the same topic to improve the results of the research. Further research can be carried out to&#13;
identify other success factors that contribute to engagement levels.
